Ok...you're thinking, how can this possibly work? Well, for 3-4 days before ovulation and for another 2-3 afterwards, certain proteins are produced in a woman's body. When you are ovulating, these proteins crystallize in a fernlike pattern. When you are not ovulating, a random pattern of unconnected dots will be visible. Check it out in the picture above. The IsisScope is a precision mini microscope that is able to show these distinctive patterns. A woman can accurately determine her fertile period by looking at her dried saliva through the IsisScope because these patterns are so different that you can see them at a glance!
In the transitional stage (right before and after ovulation), sufficient protein has not been produced to form the distinctive fernlike pattern. In the first picture, the ferns are clearly visible.
